Candidates cause controversy when registering for… 24 wishes
The university and college application form shows that many candidates registered for 20 or 30 options. Some students registered for all majors at the same school.
Candidate registration form for 24 wishes for all majors in the same school
From April 1 to April 20, candidates will complete their application for the 2018 National High School Exam and University and College Admissions. While many candidates have identified suitable majors and careers and completed their registrations on the first days, many candidates are still struggling with majors, careers, and schools, leading to widespread registration.
Recently, on social networks and admissions pages of some high schools, images of university and college admissions application forms with dozens of candidates' wishes have been circulated.
Most of the registration forms show that candidates have identified their favorite majors and careers, so they have applied to dozens of schools that offer that major. Meanwhile, most notably, there are still a few candidates who apply to all majors of a school, regardless of whether they are suitable and interested in it or not. Although it is unclear whether this registration form was actually submitted to universities or not, it has attracted a lot of discussion, sharing, and warnings from students.
Many people commented that candidates have been given the right to register unlimited wishes, so let them decide their own future. Most other candidates said that with the fee of 30,000 VND/ wish, the owners of these forms are really wasting their families' money because few schools have more than 4-5 admission rounds.
Sharing his views on this issue, Master Pham Thai Son - Deputy Director of the Admissions Center, Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry, said that students still have the opportunity to change their wishes, so it is not necessary to register for so many schools for one major. "Candidates should make a list of schools that are suitable for them in terms of annual admission scores, tuition fees, living conditions, support policies, etc. and then arrange them in order of priority. The most suitable schools with scores slightly higher than their abilities are the first priority and so on, gradually decreasing in terms of scores, then students will have a higher chance of being admitted and entering schools that are more suitable for them," said Mr. Son.
This career consultant also warns candidates to avoid regretting enrolling in schools that are not suitable for their personal and family conditions.
"Students who register for too many majors in one school need to review their major selection process. They need to be serious in choosing their major to avoid wasting their future," he said. This expert said that during the application process, the guidance role of high school teachers is very important. Therefore, teachers need to advise students more so that they are serious in registering for majors and schools, otherwise they will waste their future.
"Through the above issue, it can be seen that career guidance and enrollment have received more attention in recent years. However, there are still many students who do not have a correct understanding of this issue. Their soft skills are really problematic," Mr. Son commented.
