In recent years, nursing has gradually become a popular choice for many students and parents. This is not only due to the increasing demand for personnel in the healthcare system, but also because it is one of the few professions that maintains stability, offers broad job opportunities, and has the potential for sustainable development in a constantly changing labor market.

However, according to Dr. Tran Quang Huy, Head of the Nursing Department at Dai Nam University (DNU), the most important factor when choosing nursing is not whether "it's easy to find a job," but whether the training environment is capable of helping students become true nurses.

“A good nurse needs not only professional knowledge, but also proficient practical skills, the ability to handle situations, a holistic approach to patient care, and especially medical ethics. If training is not linked to practice, students will find it very difficult to adapt to the hospital environment after graduation,” shared Dr. Tran Quang Huy.

That is also why the Nursing program at Dai Nam University is built on a practical training orientation, with international competency standards and closely aligned with the actual needs of modern healthcare.

Students receive training based on ASEAN standards, with a focus on developing practical professional skills.

Dr. Tran Quang Huy emphasized that the core of modern nursing training must shift from knowledge-based training to professional competency training.

Accordingly, the Nursing training program at Dai Nam University is developed according to ASEAN competency standards, while also being adapted to suit the disease patterns, culture, and healthcare needs in Vietnam.

The entire program comprises 125 credits, with over 50% of the time dedicated to practical training and internships. This is a very high proportion of practical training compared to many other training programs.

Increased practical training helps students: master nursing techniques, improve their problem-solving skills, gain confidence when interacting with patients, and adapt quickly to the real-world work environment…

Trained according to the practice assessment model of international nursing schools.

One of the distinguishing features of the Nursing program at Dai Nam University is its method of assessing practical skills. The university applies the Dave skill assessment scale through OSCE/OSPE station-based testing – an assessment method used by many international nursing universities. This is a very important assessment method in modern nursing training because it accurately reflects the professional competence of students.

"In the nursing field, simply memorizing knowledge is not enough. Students must know how to perform techniques correctly, handle situations accurately, and communicate appropriately with patients. Station-based exams help to comprehensively assess these competencies," he said.

Through this assessment model, students are trained in: practical skills, clinical reflexes, problem-solving abilities, professional conduct, and communication skills in a healthcare environment.

For foundational theoretical courses, students are assessed using Bloom's Taxonomy to develop analytical thinking, application, and problem-solving skills, rather than rote memorization.

Regular practice is provided in a modern Skill-lab system.

In reality, many health science students often face pressure when entering the hospital environment due to a lack of prior practice time. Therefore, Dai Nam University has invested in a modern Skill-lab practice system that meets international standards to provide students with opportunities to continuously hone their professional skills before going into clinical practice.

Here, students practice: basic and advanced nursing techniques, patient communication, elderly care, handling simulated situations, and developing professional reflexes in a real-world work environment…

"A nurse who wants to be proficient in their profession needs to practice repeatedly in a safe simulation environment before directly interacting with patients," Dr. Tran Quang Huy stated.

Regular on-the-job training helps students become more confident, reduces psychological pressure during internships, and enhances their professional skills even while they are still studying.

In addition to their expertise, 100% of the lecturers possess strong foreign language skills, enabling students to access international materials, stay updated on modern healthcare trends, and expand their job opportunities in an international environment.

Early exposure to the hospital environment expands job opportunities.

One of the major advantages for nursing students at Dai Nam University is the opportunity to practice at over 50 partner hospitals and medical facilities. Early exposure to the clinical environment helps students understand the specifics of the profession, improve communication skills, and develop a professional demeanor.

"Nursing is a profession that requires a great deal of practical experience. The earlier students are exposed to the hospital environment, the higher their ability to adapt to the profession after graduation," shared Dr. Tran Quang Huy.

The network of connections with hospitals and medical facilities also helps students: have diverse internship opportunities, expand career prospects, and access recruitment even while still studying.

Notably, 100% of students are connected with jobs before graduation through the university's partner network.

Graduating early reduces financial pressure and allows for sooner career stability.

The Nursing program at Dai Nam University is designed to be 3.5 years long, helping students: shorten their study time, reduce cost pressure, enter the labor market sooner, and have more time to accumulate professional experience.

This is a huge advantage in the context of the nursing industry having high demand for personnel both domestically and internationally.
