Tears at the mock trial

On May 29th, a mock trial of a criminal case for "Intentional Infliction of Injury" at Dai Nam University attracted a large number of students and lawyers. In the solemn atmosphere of the law practice room, the judge's gavel rang out decisively: "The panel of judges begins its proceedings."

The case, extracted from real-life records, tells the heartbreaking story of two minors: the defendant Nguyen Duc Nguyen and the victim Dang Hoang Gia Bao. Because of a moment of impulsiveness and recklessness typical of school-age children, they plunged two families into tragedy, one suffering injury and the other facing legal consequences. In her role as a lawyer defending the victim's legal rights, student Hoang Lan Nhi confidently presented her viewpoint: “Respectfully addressing the Judicial Council and the representative of the Procuracy… The defendant's infliction of injury on the victim is truly regrettable. Both are still students with limited understanding of the law. The victim has received compensation and submitted a request for leniency. I respectfully request that the Judicial Council consider reducing the sentence to demonstrate the State's mercy…”

The mock trial, with its sharp arguments and realistic courtroom scenarios, captivated a large audience of law students, lawyers, and legal experts. Through this mock trial, it's evident that the shift from traditional oral presentations and leaflet distribution to a visualized model using real-life scenarios has had a powerful ripple effect. This approach directly impacts the psychology and awareness of the participants. From the judges' panel, lawyer Mai Bich Ngan shared: “I have attended many real trials and mock trials for students at several universities, but with this one, I was truly convinced and captivated by the students' debating skills. This is not just a practice session for students, but a wake-up call for all parents and students about the consequences of school violence.”

Digital technology curriculum

As one of the pioneering private universities following the applied model, the Faculty of Law at Dai Nam University has made a significant breakthrough: streamlining the Law and Economic Law programs from four years to three years with nine semesters. This strategic move aims to help students minimize costs and access the labor market sooner. Notably, the university's Law program has achieved quality accreditation from the Ministry of Education and Training.

Sharing her thoughts on applying digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) to continuously improve the quality of education and training, as well as innovate methods of disseminating policies and laws, Dr. Le Thi Thanh Huong, Vice Rector of Dai Nam University, emphasized that the university identifies digital technology and AI as strategic tools to change the way knowledge is accessed. Integrating AI into teaching helps students develop multi-dimensional analytical thinking, optimize research time, and quickly adapt to the global digital work environment. This is key to shortening training time while achieving superior output quality.

The application of "digitalization of law" at the Faculty of Law, Dai Nam University, is not an isolated, isolated movement, but a concrete action stemming from resolutions of the Party and Government, aligning with the strong digital transformation wave of the capital city. The university's actions clearly demonstrate the city's determination to comprehensively "digitize" the system, integrating technology into social life, particularly in innovating education and the dissemination of Party and State policies and laws. Creating a generation of "digital lawyers" and "digital legal experts" who are tech-savvy is a foundational building block contributing to the sustainable development of a digital government, digital economy, and digital society. When those who enforce and disseminate the law possess digital tools, the effectiveness of legal education and dissemination within the community is increasingly enhanced.
